The continuous development of technology in the satellite broadcasting industry, the updating of channel lists, the addition of new broadcasts, and occasional changes to existing broadcasting parameters make it increasingly important for receiving devices to remain fully compatible with the current broadcasting infrastructure. In this context, TKGS compatibility plays an important role in ensuring that users can access broadcasts accurately and without interruption.
What is TKGS?
TKGS (TÜRKSAT Channel Update System) is a system that enables channel lists and broadcasting information related to television and radio channels transmitted via TÜRKSAT satellites to be automatically kept up to date on compatible devices.
Thanks to TKGS, the need for users to manually search for channels or rearrange their channel lists following changes in channel frequencies or broadcasting parameters is significantly reduced. On supported devices, the system enables updated channel information to be received automatically and allows channel lists to be maintained in an orderly and up-to-date manner.
For this reason, TKGS compatibility should not be regarded solely as a technical feature. It is also an important element in maintaining a satisfactory end-user experience, ensuring smooth broadcast transitions, and preserving the compatibility of devices with the TÜRKSAT broadcasting infrastructure.
TKGS Approval Must Be Obtained Separately for Each Brand and Each Model
One of the key points that manufacturers, importers, distributors, and other companies operating in our industry should pay particular attention to is that TKGS approval is not a general approval granted to an entire brand.
The TKGS approval process must be carried out separately for every brand and every individual device model.
The fact that a particular model of a brand has obtained TKGS approval does not mean that other models belonging to the same brand are automatically approved. Since hardware, software, user interfaces, channel update mechanisms, and technical operating principles may differ from one model to another, each model already placed on the market or planned for market introduction must undergo the relevant approval procedure separately.
Accordingly, it is of great importance for companies to verify the TKGS approval status of their new products before placing them on the market and to complete the necessary applications in a timely manner.
TKGS Compatibility Is Important for Smooth Broadcast Transitions
During technical changes and broadcast transitions carried out within the TÜRKSAT broadcasting system, devices that have not completed the necessary compatibility procedures in advance may encounter issues such as channel update problems, incorrect channel ordering, difficulties in accessing broadcasts, or similar end-user problems.
