Turkey Surpasses a Critical Threshold in the Transition to 5G: Frequency Auction Has Begun!
Turkey is opening the doors to a new era in mobile communication. The frequency auction that will establish the infrastructure for 5G technology is being held today. The auction, scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, is considered a significant step in the country’s digital transformation process.
Under the close supervision of Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, the three major mobile network operators—Turkcell, Vodafone Türkiye, and Türk Telekom—are participating in the auction. The companies are submitting their bids electronically to lease frequency blocks for 15 years.
The auction is being conducted based on principles of transparency and competition. The bids submitted by the operators will directly influence their competition strategies, investment plans, and commitments to using domestic technologies.
Turkcell stands out with its efforts to expand its 4.5G infrastructure and has successfully completed its 5G tests. Vodafone Türkiye continues to leverage its global experience to strengthen its position in low-latency networks. Türk Telekom, on the other hand, aims to integrate its fiber optic investments with 5G to combine fixed and mobile infrastructures. This step will support Turkey’s digitalization vision and help the country achieve a strong position in the global 5G market.
As TUYAD, we hope that with this process, the three operators—who will serve approximately 22 million devices capable of using this technology in Turkey—will work in the interest of our country by utilizing domestic and national products. The low-orbit satellite base stations that will support this effort will also bring significant dynamism to our sector.
